WHALE WATCHING
July-September
Looking for the best whale watching tours in Panama? The Azuero Peninsula is a Mecca for humpback whales and you can see them right here in Venao. Venao welcomes these humongous cetaceans to its tropical Pacific waters 4 out of the 12 months of the year! The warm waters around the Equator give the ideal conditions for humpback whales to breed and protect their offspring during their winter season. Venao is a safe haven for humpback whales traveling from the Southern hemisphere from July to October, on what’s considered the longest mammal migration ever recorded, traveling from 3,000 to 6,000 miles all the way from Antarctica! And not only that, but they arrive by the thousands!! Whale watching is amazing in this area, and often only requires a 10-20 minute boat ride offshore to view groups and mom/calf pairs. Occasionally you can see them from shore. And sometimes, late in the season we’ve seen playful calves accidentally wander into the bay of Playa Venao to check out some of our surfers!

ZIPLINE
year round
Experience the beautiful nature and jungles of Panama through a different and fun filled activity like this world-class zip-line course that zig zags down the jungle!

It consists of 8 zip-line cables and 2 rappels, with a total span of 3 kilometers down the mountain to measure Panama's longest single zip-line spanning 600 meters!

There’s also a jungle hiking trail where you can try your courage by walking on the suspended wooden cable bridge (It can get shaky, so remember to cross the bridge one person at a time!). Expect to see monkeys, parrots, and a long list of cool jungle creatures on each excursion.
This is a family oriented activity so don't hesitate to bring the little ones along. Don't worry if they are scared, our professionally trained guides can harness them and bring them down in tandem without a problem. This is the perfect option for those adventure lovers and extreme sports travelers out there!

TURTLE NESTING & HATCHING
July-November

The Azuero Peninsula is one of the best places to see turtles in Panama. Watching a turtle lay her eggs at night or helping a baby turtle reach the shore are magical moments to experience. With Save The Turtles Foundation you can volunteer for Night Patrols or visit the nursery during a turtle release. Unassisted survival rate is 0.1% due to multiple threats like poachers and dogs and this non-profit is doing invaluable work at keeping the survival rate at 90% by doing beach patrols, guided releases, nest relocation, eco-tourism, educational outreach, scientific research and nursery management. If you feel inclined to do so, please support this cause. The Olive Ridley Sea Turtle found here is famous because they do synchronized mass nesting, known an arribadas in only 11 beaches in the world and we have 2 of them in Azuero. Did you know that turtles lay between 85-95 eggs in one night and have an internal compass to guide them to the exact same beach they were born?

Permaculture is an environmental design science that creates sustainable architecture, regenerative habitats and agricultural systems based on natural ecosystems.
Currently, the project consists of fruits, vegetables, plants, flowers, a robust composting system (we collect the organic waste that discards the restaurant, the cafe, the kitchen of the hostel and the houses for composting, producing very fertile land for planting) , gray water recycling system, an African bee farm, a free chicken farm that give us daily eggs (used by the restaurant, coffee and also for sale), composting toilets with wood chips wood.
